Andrew Contreras went to be with the lord on June 9th, 2017 at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. He passed away after a long battle with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML). Andrew is survived by his wife of 35 years, Theresa; son, Andrew Jr.; daughters, Teresa Lopez, Patricia Cruz (Beto), & Angela Cervantes (Ruben); brothers, David Contreras, Alfred Contreras (Hortence), Lupe Lopez (Angie), Joe Lopez, & Johnny Contreras; sisters, Vera Caballero (P.C.) & Josie Lopez. Andrew is preceded in rest by his parents, Guadalupe Contreras & Rosa Contreras; his grandson, Andrew Contreras III; his sister, Carol Soria, his brothers-in-law, Joe Soria & Tony Deleon; and his brother Rudolph Contreras.

Andrew was a Management Assistant Director of the solid waste departments fleet maintenance in the city of Houston. He began his career with the city in October of 1969 as a skilled laborer and throughout the years climbed the ladder all the way to Assistant Director and his work ethic always exceeded expectations. Andrew believed that all employees, regardless of classification, should be treated with respect. He himself was well respected by all departments throughout the city, and in 1999 he was a nominee for the Environmental Professional of the Year. Throughout his 42 years of service he never missed a day of work and retired with perfect attendance.

He not only loved his job, he loved his co-workers and he considered them as his extended family. Every morning he would greet his mechanics with a smile and a handshake. He believed that life is your faith, the love of family and the love of yourself. As the sun sets on this chapter in Andrew's life he leaves behind many family and friends to treasure his memory forever.
